Afro Independence Day 2012

Pick yo’ afro naturals because it’s Afro Independence Day!  While we Americans celebrate the birth of our nation, naturals around the world can join together and celebtrate National Afro Day.  I would love to see your fro so tweet me a pic @HereIsMySpout or post on DCN fb wall, happy #FroFourth!

If you are blessed to have tight coils you got this in the bag.  The key to making the proper afro is to start with wet/damp hair that has been detangled.  Apply favorite leave-in conditioner and sealant and allow to dry.  When hair is mostly dry use a pic to fluff and shape the fro in an outward direction.  Then pat the hair lightly into shape.  For an even bigger fro use hair bands to stretch the hair while drying then remove them once dry and pic out.

If you have looser curls, no sweat honey I got you too!  Start with wet/damp hair that has been detangled.  Apply favorite leave-in conditioner and sealant and twist or braid hair in large chunky plaits (I used 12).  Allow the hair to dry then unravel each twist/braid separating and fluffing as much as possible.  Then using your fingers or pic inserted into your roots pull and fluff the hair outward.  If you have trouble getting your fro to take shape pull it into a puff and let it set for about an hour then remove hairband and fluff.
