Product Review: Shea Moisture 10-In-1 Renewal System Hair Masque

Shea Moisture Superfruit Complex 10-In-1 Renewal System

Shea Moisture

Superfruit Complex 10-In-1 Renewal System Hair Masque

$12.99 / 12 oz

Available at SheaMoisture.com, ULTA, Target, Walgreens

ing: Water, Cetyl Alcohol, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil*,  Behentrimonium Methosulfate,  Glycerin (Vegetable),  Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter*,  Stearyl Alcohol,  Sclerocarya Birrea Seed Oil,  Behentrimonium Chloride, Panthenol,  Biotin,  Cetrimonium Chloride,  Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil,  Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Butter*, Fragrance (Essential Oil Blend), Tocopherol,  Rubus Idaeus (Raspberry) Fruit Extract,  Lycium Barbarum Fruit Extract,  Euterpe Oleracea Fruit Extract,  Psidium Guajava Fruit Extract, Hydrolyzed Rice Protein, Caprylhydroxamic Acid,  Caprylyl Glycol,  Citric Acid,  Sodium Citrate,  Ipomoea Batatas Extract,  Cinnamidopropyltrimonium Chloride *Certified Organic Ingredient

From their website: This intensive antioxidant-rich treatment helps to perfect and renew vibrancy to brittle, lackluster hair. When used weekly in our 10-IN-1 RENEWAL SYSTEM, it treats damaged hair while providing anti-aging benefits, color protection, hydration, nourishment, rejuvenation, strength, anti-stress, deep conditioning, softness and shine. Counteract signs of aging by nourishing the scalp with our SuperFruit Complex and infusing hair with ultra-moisturizing Marula Oil and Biotin.

Add this to the ever growing list of Shea Moisture product lines. I can appreciate that they strive to make products that target specific hair needs. I think everyone can find at least one product line that they love. Then there are those of us who are down to try a new product just because. I have tried the Tahitian Noni & Monoi Smooth & Repair Nourishing Hair Masque (SRNHM), Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen, Grow & Restore Treatment Masque (SGRTM) from the newer line and the Yucca & Plantain Anti-Breakage Strengthening Masque (ABSM) which was reformulated, so far the SRNHM has been my favorite.

This product makes 10 claims: age defy, color protect, hydrate, nourish, soften, anti-stress, deep condition, revive body, strengthen and shine.  I am not exactly sure how you can prove some of these claims, however I can attest that after use my hair did feel deep conditioned, hydrated, nourished, softened and strengthened.  Like many other products by this brand, TORSHM has a very strong scent, this one is fruity, and it does linger for quite a while. If you are opposed to strong scents you may want to give this one a pass.   Overall, I would repurchase this product, however it is still the 2nd best deep conditioner after the SRNHM.

Product Review: Shea Moisture Smooth & Repair Nourishing Hair Masque

Shea Moisture

Smooth & Repair Nourishing Hair Masque

$12 / 12 oz

ing: Deionized Water, Butyrosperum Parkii (Shea Butter)*, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil*, Vegetable Glycerin, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Cetearyl Alocohol (Coconut Oil), Castor (Ricinus Communis) Seed Oil, Sentrimonium Chloride, Oleth-10, Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B-5), Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Tiare (Gardenia Tahitensis) Flower, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil*, Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, Behentrimonium Chloride, Argania Spinosa Kernal Oil, Glyceryl Caprylate, Marinda Citrifolia (Noni) Extract, Glyceryl Undecylenate, Pythic Acid

From their website “Shea Moisture ‘s Tahitian Noni & Monoi Smooth & Repair Nourishing Hair Masque provides deep conditioning and infuses hair with a powerful dose of moisture. Shea Moisture’s hair conditioning treatment smooths the hair cuticle, controls frizz and maintains straight styles.”

Here’s a confession, I have never been a big fan of Shea Moisture deep conditioners. They work okay but I haven’t swooned by their performance.  My blogger bro Jor-El at ManeMan blog understands the way I feel.  These DC’s tend to be softening but do not offer much by the way of slip and I want my DCs to do it all. Also they are super thick that is something hi-po’s tend to love but I often wonder if it’s really penetrating.  I won a Target giftcard from TribeCalledCurl and I was lured to SRNHM while strolling the natural hair aisle.  I am not sure what made me do it after being hurt so many times before but it smelled good and I like the color green so yeah I bought it anyway.

For the month of March I set a hair goal to deep condition every week with heat to really pamper and improve the condition of my hair.  This is the method I used with the SRNHM and I really loved it. I don’t know if the SRNHM formula is just better or whether adding heat made it magic but either way its a keeper! After use my hair felt softer and smoother.  There are easily 6+ applications in this jar and the $1 per ounce price point is perfect for my budget. *adds to repeat buy list*

TreLuxe Product Review

Haley, TreLuxe and Return of the CurlsI was so happy to meet Kiprono & Cortney Sigilai the dynamic husband and wife team and owners of TréLuxe.  They were vending at the Louisville Return of the Curls event where I was very pleased with how the product worked on my hair after a quick hair demo.  I was lucky enough to be gifted the entire line of products for review *blogger perks*.

From the website:

TréLuxe products are specifically formulated to nourish, define and style natural curls, offering solutions to the various hair care problems that women with naturally textured hair face at home, work, and play. TréLuxe products are designed with the woman on-the-go in mind. We focus on providing effortless manageability, giving you confidence in every curl!

TréLuxe products contain all natural, easy to pronounce and readily identifiable ingredients like aloe leaf juice, coconut milk, slippery elm extract, broccoli seed oil and other ingredients we naturals have grown to love and know work well in our hair.  The key to this product line is that it is formulated to work on wet hair which is perfect for most of us who do our styling right out of the shower.

The TréLuxe product line consists of four products: Untie the Knot, Curl Supreme, Hi Definition and ReFlex. Untie the Knot is the leave in conditioner that can be used as a light conditioning treatment or as a daily leave-in conditioner. Curl Supreme is a styling cream that can be used as a heavier moisturizer, cream styler or twist/braid cream.  Hi Definition is a curl enhancer that can be used as a wash-n-go styler or as a twist/braid styler. ReFlex is curl styling serum used a finisher and curl sealer with flexible hold.

I will be posting four separate reviews on how I used each product and my styling results. Check out TréLuxe on their website, on facebook and on instagram.

Curls Gone Wild

Kentucky Natural Hair & Beauty Expo

Saturday, September 14th 2013

10 am  – 5 pm

University of Louisville, Student Activities Center

So this is really happening. Kentucky is getting our first ever major natural hair expo!  You all know that for the last 3 years I have worked hard at the Derby City Naturals brand in order to provide education, information, and direction on natural hair in Louisville.  I have hosted meetups and was on the committee for Natural Hair Meetup Day, but one thing I have always wanted for is a large natural hair expo here in our city.  Thanks to Keenya Kelly of Return of the Curls this is finally happening!!! Haley Rhine Derby City Naturals Keenya Kelly Return of the Curls

Keenya has become a fast friend of mine and I am  truly impressed by the wonderful work she has done with Return of the Curls all over the U.S.  I am also glad that she didn’t forget about home (yes Keenya is Kentucky girl) and that she and her team have worked diligently to pull this event together.

But we need to make sure that we show up and show out! Buy your tickets online before the event for $10 or the day of at the door for $15.  Bring your friends, sorors, cousins, church members, neighbors and let us show the industry that we are a viable market. There are also a few vendor spaces left, please contact info@returnofthecurls if you are interested in vending it is not too late.
