Black Friday, The Aftermath

So, let’s talk about Black Friday, whether you shopped Black, shopped small or not at all.  Many of you decided not shop as a form of political protest and I totally respect that.  I did the same thing that I do every year which is Black, small and women. Here is recap of my shopping experiences this year.

  1. I’m too old to stay up late. Yep I said it mama is tired. I took a nap just so I could get up and shop like I needed to and I didn’t even leave my house, lol.
  2. There were so many vendors I planned on patronizing until I got to their websites and found these common occurrences: discount codes were not working and shipping was an abomination.  I don’t know why business owners have such a terrible time with getting discount codes to work.  They should run a stress test on the system prior to launching.  And these shipping charges are absolute bullshit. I am not paying $10 to ship for 2 products. Nope. Bro you act like USPS priority flat rate boxes aren’t free and the prices aren’t published. I abandoned my cart on several websites.
  3. Vendors need to be up and active on social media. Props to Ayo of Soultanicals who was not only available and responsive in the midst of Black Friday she helped me select which products I should purchase based on my hair needs. Just for that I ended up spending more because I was so appreciative of her awesome customer service.

I placed 5 hair/beauty orders of the 10 I had planned. My best shopping experience was with Thank God I’m Natural. The website was simple to navigate, I had no hiccups in ordering and the product arrived by Monday, yes 3 days later, that was the best service period.  The next was with Coiffie, a gift for my mama, again easy to navigate, no hiccups and the product arrived on Tuesday I will definitely order from them again. And then there was Curls. Curls website was acting a fool and the code was not working. I was very frustrated as were many others on Twitter. Curls was completely absent from social media and unresponsive.  However the next morning everything was working, they did respond to our pleas from the previous night and I was able to place my order. My package arrived on Thursday which was still under a week. Also I ordered the salon size bottle of conditioner and my shipping was still under $10 y’all are playing with this shipping prices!

wpid-2014-12-11-17.11.22.png.pngMy remaining two orders that I have not received are from Soultanicals and Bekura (formerly BASK).  I would like to note that Soultanicals put a disclaimer stating it would take longer for orders to be received and that if you wanted products faster to purchase from another vendor that carries their product.  I actually planned on doing that, but the vendor I found sucked, website kept freezing and the discount code wasn’t working.  Like I stated before Ayo or Soultanicals was about her business so I’m willing to wait a little longer for my product.  As for Bekura I have no clue what they have going on. It was only a restock for me so I am no rush, however I would like to have my products by Christmas. We shall see.

I won’t badmouth the companies that failed.  I will just say that there are companies I have purchased from for years and was saddened by their failures. I do want to mention a company that acknowledged their mistakes and worked to make it up. The Mane Choice had their site crash and people were crying all over IG.  They have launched a Black Friday Replay sale today 12/12 40% off site wide, no coupon code required.  That is dope customer service.  Lastly, Pura Body Naturals products are still on sale thru 12/26.   1. I called myself trying to be conservative with my Black Friday natural hair spending but I was a lie lol! I found myself tweeting you to find when you were going to post the BF sales list and next thing I knew, my wallet was crying because I went HAM! I don’t even know how many sites I ordered from but it was way over 10…smdh!

    I’m glad you called out the BS about some of these companies and their outrageous shipping! More people should complain because they must think we’re stupid or desperate enough to buy it! I also abandoned carts due to crazy shipping because I CAN’T with that! On some sites, shipping costs totally negated the savings you would’ve had sale!

    You are SO right about Ayo from Soultanicals, she is always on top of everything in her business and she’s also a sweetheart! I too, have bought more than intended from her just on the strength of her customer service and recommendations!

    I am very pleased with my Coiffie and they were the FIRST of my BF purchases to arrive. Bekura and Camille Rose JUST came yesterday but they are not even the worst because I am STILL awaiting items from several businesses…sigh. Pura Body Naturals is probably the BEST of all BF deals! I’m still waiting on them but they were also a restock and they are great products for a great deal so I’m not really mad at them. Plus, their sale is still going on.

    Thanks for the tip on The Mane Choice, I didn’t know they were having a replay. I missed out on their BF sale but I guess my wallet will continue crying lol.

      • Yeah, but a PJ like me is always stocking up all year round! There’s definitely something wrong with that lol! Still waiting on items from Honey’s Handmade (formerly Happy Nappy Honey). She had the nerve to have another sale before she even fulfilled all her BF orders?! I called her out on it and she replied that all BF orders should be shipped soon…SMDH! I’m not surprised since her customer service has ALWAYS been extremely lacking so I should’ve known better.

          • Also, the fact that she didn’t even offer so much as a apology made up my mind to never bother with her bad business again! The only reason I even purchased from her this last time is because I had a Groupon for her site that was going to expire.

          • Lo and behold, after our 10 email between each other she FINALLY apologizes for the first time because the missing items are sold out. Besides outrageous shipping I think that the poor customer service that is rampant in Black/Small Businesses also needs to be addressed. I’ve had too many negative experiences with too many so-called companies who think they can just serve us any kind of way and we’re just supposed to take it!

  2. The shipping for some companies is outrageous! Anythong above 6.00 is pricey IMO. I spent my BF truly buying black. Started off conservative and it got real ridiculous real fast!!!

  3. I ordered a whole lot from Bekura but I recieved my order last week! I ordered from Camille Rose, Oyin Handmade, Bekura, and Darcy’s Botanicals. I have already recieved everything! Camille Rose was the fastest! I just did a reorder with Oyin because I couldn’t add to cart :( and I got free shipping. Darcy’s, I had a few items missing but they replaced them and some more! So I am very very pleased with their customer service! I have already recieved those items as well!

  4. My first stop was from thermal hair care..ordered Friday received it on Minda. Tried to order from Soultanicals but the code wouldn’t apply. Tried it a few times then gave up. Didn’t think to contact her..wasn’t really a need just a want :) . Sarenzo had a BF sale every week in November and I received 90% of my order so far but she had specific ship dates so I’m not concerned. I think that was it. The companies are ordered from have great shipping prices.

  5. P.S. just went to Pura Naturals to get some BOGO items. Total was $15 & 2 day shipping (only option) was $10.80!!! No way in Jose am I buying purchasing those items. Ridiculous indeed.
