Product Review: Lia Naturals Shampoo Bars

Lia Naturals Shampoo BarI love multi-use products so it is strange that I have slept on shampoo bars for so long. Shampoo bars are exactly how they sound, shampoo in bar form.   They are used to cleanse the scalp and hair same as other cleansers but can also be used for face and body.  Now if you have never used a shampoo bar it may seem a little weird, but once you do you will wonder what took you so long to try it.

Lia Naturals was formerly known as DIY Naturals Hair Care but they changed their name a few months ago.  I was sent several sample sized shampoo bars to review including: Green Tea, Hibiscus, and Ayurvedic shampoo bars.  I started with the Hibiscus shampoo bar which I found to work well as both a shampoo bar and a body bar.  I did notice after using it the first time that my hair had a waxy coating which felt strange. However after deep conditioning my hair the waxy feeling was gone.  I was told that the waxiness could be from the shea butter used in the ingredients.  I really liked the Green Tea shampoo bar as a face wash, it really helped with my occasionally finicky skin.

Ayurvedic Shampoo Bar

$6.95

ing: Purified Water, Sodium Hydroxide, Soybean Oil, Avocado Oil, Palm Oil, Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Wheat Germ Oil, Shea Butter, Castor Oil, Amla, Neem, & Fenugreek Powder

As this was my first introduction to shampoo bars I cannot compare to other kinds.  What I can say is outside of smell and appearance I really could not tell the difference between the three soaps I received on my hair.  I did notice a difference on my skin however.  I found the shampoo bars are very easy to use and that they are a great way to specifically target your scalp and to cleanse it. The bars lather up very easy and make it simple to cleanse the length of the hair.  I also like that you can target a specific area of the head easily as compared to traditional shampoo.

5 Things I Like About This Product

  1. Ease of use. Wet the hair, massage the bar into the scalp and use fingers to agitate.
  2. Cleanses well. My hair and scalp were both thoroughly cleansed.
  3. A little really does go a long way and you only apply the amount that you need.
  4. Travel friendly. You can pack a shampoo bar on your trip and not have to worry about spillage or tsa restrictions on liquids.
  5. Lathers well. While it is not necessary to have a great lather to clean your hair we have become accustomed to the bubbles.

I was very pleased with this shampoo bar from Lia Naturals and I would most definitely purchase again.  For tips on how to wash your hair with a shampoo bar check out my YT video below.  In the video I followed the shampoo bar cleansing with a vinegar rinse to see if it helped combat the waxy feeling.

  1. I placed my first order with Lia Naturals for Black Friday 2012. While I did not order any shampoo bars (in placing group orders I lost track of everything I personally wanted but wil make it up with my second order) I did order three of her scented, multi use, whipped shea butters (shea avocado in summertime, apricot mango and coconut mango) and the black soap sugar scrub in summertime (ordered from etsy and later discovered that Lia Naturals has her own site as well). These butters are amazing! While many of us know how to whip shea, cocoa and mango butters to our own individual liking we do not always have the time. I truly appreciated that the jars were filled…..there were no deliberate air pockets like I have experienced with several more commercial and pricier brands (that also add a lot of fillers)….the aroma is amazing (we are all absolutely in love with apricot mango and coconut mango…I see on her site she now has a Papaya Mango – I will have to add that to my wish list!)…..They melt into your skin and hair beautifully…..They were whipped to perfection – no grainy feel. There were lots of questions from my group regarding ingredients, essentials oils, fragrances, etc…(most of us live a natlral / organic / vegan lifestyle). Lia answered them all very promptly and completely. I love a company that freely answers any and all questions regarding their product ingredients without avoidance (You would be suprised at how many times I have experienced this with other online shops that offer natural handmade skincare). My philosophy is simple. If you are going to add something to a formulation (i.e.fragrances / scents / extracts) you should be able to provide detailed info for each and every item you add to a product formulation. The customer service was fabulous! When I received my order I was missing one BOGO set. I also realized that one of my neices wanted only the shea avocado butter and I forgot to order. Lia sent my missing items and included the shea avocado butter at no charge. This was my first experience at ordering through etsy (I also ordered several products from Hairitage Hydration) and I must say it was a pleasant one. Ladies, Lia Natural’s prices and quality are top notch. You cannot go wrong.

  2. I’ve used poo bars for about a year and consistently since the summertime. Liability natural bars are very good. I’ve purchased about 5 bars. A little does go along WA and I also use it as a body bar. Great stuff from Liability Naturals!!
