DIY: Coffee Scrub

Coffee beans are more than just main ingredient in your morning cup, they are taking over the world of beauty products.  More than just smelling good, the use of coffee beans is coveted for their tightening and antioxidant effects on the skin.   An easy google search will identify that caffeine is effective in a skin care regimen because it is a vasoconstrictor, an antioxidant and a diuretic.

DIY Coffee Scrub:

  • 1 cup brown sugar (or white table sugar or salt)
  • 1/4 cup coffee grounds
  • 3-5 Tablespoons safflower oil (or your favorite oil)

Blend all ingredients together and apply to skin in a circular motion for at least five minutes then, rinse with warm water.  Store remaining scrub in an air tight container out of direct sunlight. For a coarser scrub increase the ratio of coffee grounds to sugar.

This scrub works great on the entire body.  It is said to work wonders on varicose veins, swollen/puffy areas, or to give a mini-facial boost after a long night.

  1. This looks like something I would try. Exfoliators get a bad rap from the acne-improvement community at times but a little exfoliation always did me good.

  2. Okie dokie…. Dumb question of the day! Does the coffee have to be brewed or can regular grounds be used.
I’d like to make a jar of this to keep in the shower…or is long-term storage of any coffee scrub out of the question?
